Brussels, 26 March 2025 — The European Commission has unveiled a proposal for a Council Decision that outlines the EU’s position on the second edition of the International Standards and Recommended Practices on Environmental Protection, specifically the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). This move underscores the EU’s commitment to stringent environmental standards while aligning with global aviation regulations.
The proposal, dated 25 March 2025, aims to establish the EU’s stance within the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regarding CORSIA, which is part of the Chicago Convention. The EU seeks to maintain its rigorous emissions trading system (EU ETS) while complying with international standards.
