EU Publishes New Delegated Regulation on CO2 Injection to Advance Net-Zero Act

The European Union has published a new Delegated Regulation, supplementing the Net Zero Industry Act, which came into force on 29 June 2024. This regulation is a crucial component of the EU’s strategy to bolster its net-zero technology manufacturing ecosystem and advance its climate goals.

The primary aim of the Delegated Regulation is to define the framework for identifying entities obligated to contribute to the EU’s CO2 injection capacity targets. It specifies a production threshold below which entities are exempt from contribution obligations, focusing regulatory efforts on significant producers while considering the impact on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
