LNG Use Necessary in Shipping, European Official Concedes.

Too few “real” alternatives to fossil fuels in the shipping industry means that Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) use is a necessity according to a European Commission official speaking at a EURACTIV organised event.

Indeed, many pundits believe that whilst hydrogen has great potential, lower energy density renders it uneconomic. Nonetheless, the French inland maritime operator, Compagnie Fluviale de Transport, is planning to operate the world’s first hydrogen cargo ship in 2021, in collaboration with an EU project called Flagships H2020 Project.
